Tugu Kujang Bogor
Every region, especially cities in Indonesia, has its own uniqueness and icons that characterize each of them. The symbol or icon is a sign of glory or has its history and is usually located in the middle of the city.
Including Bogor City itself has its own uniqueness and symbol or icon, namely the Kujang Monument. The Kujang monument is taken from the name of a traditional heirloom weapon of the Sundanese ethnic West Java community, namely Kujang. The Kujang weapon itself has been known since the time of the Pajajaran Kingdom in the 14th century AD, during the reign of Prabu Siliwangi.
Uniquely in the past, this Kujang weapon was used by the community as agricultural equipment. This statement is stated in the ancient manuscript Sanghyang Siksa Kanda Ng Karesian (1518 AD) as well as oral traditions that developed in several regions, including in the Rancah area, Ciamis.
In addition to agricultural equipment, this weapon was also used for war and to fight invaders. According to other literature, the history of the Pakuan Pajajaran Sundanese kingdom was located in Bogor City.
To commemorate this history, during the reign of Mayor Achmad Sobana, Tugu Kujang was built on May 4, 1982.
Tugu Kujang is a monument that symbolizes the city of Bogor. This monument was established between the meeting of Pajajaran and Otto Iskandarardinata roads. If you enter Bogor from the Jagorawi toll road about 250 meters, then the position of the Kujang monument is on the right.
The posture of the Kujang monument rises upwards as high as approximately 25 meters, built on May 4, 1982, on an area of 26 m x 23 m. The land where the monument stands is triangular in shape. The land where the monument stands is triangular, which is right in front of Botani Square or next to the Bogor Botanical Garden.
Next to the Kujang monument is also built Salapan Walang, which was built during the mayoralty of Bima Arya and inaugurated in early December 2016. On it reads the motto “Dinu Kiwari Ngancik Nu Bihari Seja Ayeuna Sampeureun Jaga.” The motto written on the bottom of this monument has a meaning, namely, “What is done today and tomorrow must be better than the previous days.”
